Jesus Army

This documentary project follows the Jesus Army during a public recruitment event where members paraded through the streets of central London before gathering for a large evangelical festival in Hackney. The photographs record the movement’s public presence at a time when it actively sought new members through highly visible community events.

In the years that followed, the organisation became the subject of extensive public scrutiny, with historical allegations of abuse and coercive practices emerging from former members. Viewed today, these photographs document a significant moment in the public history of a movement whose legacy has since been fundamentally reassessed.
